About me

I am a postdoctoral researcher at Coordinate Science Laboratory, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign hosted by Prof. Olgica Milenkovic. I am also working closely with Prof. Wojciech Szpankowski at Center for Science of Information, Purdue University. I received my Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from California Institute of Technology advised by Prof. Jehoshua Bruck. Prior to that, I received the B.S. and M.Sc. degrees in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, advised by Prof. Wei Chen. I am a recipient of 2023 IEEE Information Theory Society Thomas M. Cover Dissertation Award, 2022 Caltech Charles Wilts Prize for outstanding doctoral thesis in Electrical Engineering, 2020–2021 IEEE Communication Society Data Storage Best Paper Award, and 2019 IEEE Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award.

Research

My research interests lie in the intersection of information theory, machine learning, and theory of computation, with emphasis on developing models, algorithms, and analysis for next-generation information (storage, computation, communication, etc.) systems. Most of the information systems I am focusing on are inspired or motivated by biology. The relavent topics include:

  • Error correcting codes and denoising algorithms for DNA-based storage

  • Privacy preserving machine learning algorithms

  • Tradeoff between model size and precision in biology-inspired computation models
